Every four hours members the Navarre Beach Fire Department patrolled the beach from the military property westward to Opal Beach in hope of recovering the body of swimmer Christopher Beal who went missing on Tuesday, Dec. 29.  Danny Fureigh of NBFD says that it was the roughest and highest surf Navarre Beach has had in a while when Beal was lost.

Training accidents lead to military deaths

On March 10, a Black Hawk helicopter with seven Marines and four soldiers crashed into the Santa Rosa Sound during a training mission killing all 11 on board.  The UH-60M helicopter was piloted by a Louisiana National Guard Crew.  The helicopter took off from the Destin Executive Airport for a routine training mission.
