Special Tactics Airman honored for heroism: ‘Courage under fire’
Hurlburt Field, Fla. —
The Air Force has selected Tech. Sgt. Matthew J. Greiner, Special Tactics combat controller from the 21st Special Tactics Squadron, 24th Special Operations Wing, as the national Non Commissioned Officer Association Vanguard Award recipient for heroic actions while deployed with an Army Special Forces unit to Afghanistan in September 2014.

Pink Pirates raise the sword against cancer
According to its definition a pirate attacks an enemy in the enemy’s territory. The Pink Pirates of Navarre were on the attack Saturday against cancer at the 2015 PINKtoberfest held in Navarre Park. The theme of this year’s event was “Make cancer walk the plank” and with the help of local vendors and community members, they did just that.

Local projects totaling $7.5 million up for review
Finally, what we’ve all been anxiously awaiting. The Santa Rosa County Board of Commissioners Sept. 24 approved a draft multiyear implementation plan submitted by RESTORE council members at its county commission meeting. The 15 projects submitted total $3.7 million.

Man shot at FWB apartment
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting at a Fort Walton Beach apartment complex. Jose Raymond Sanchez, a 20-year-old Fort Walton Beach man, suffered a gunshot wound to the groin on Pocahontas Drive near a dumpster outside Colony House Apartments the morning of Oct. 9. He was transported to a Pensacola hospital for treatment.

Kimmons convicted of sexual battery

2013 Navarre murder remains unsolved
At about 12:30 a.m. on March 7, 2013, Santa Rosa County deputies received a call about suspicious activities on Larker Woods Road in east Navarre. What they found when they arrived was 31-year old shooting victim Philip Davenport in the front yard of his home. He was pronounced dead on the scene, according to Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer, Rich Aloy.

Heroin, cocaine and meth seized in Milton
According to a press release from the Santa Rosa County Sherriff’s office, a two-month investigation stemming from narcotics intelligence received from multiple sources resulted in a search warrant being served at 6 a.m. on Oct. 8.
