22 veterans committing suicide every day
The United States Department of Veterans Affairs in 2013 released a study addressing suicides from 1999-2010 which reflected that roughly 22 veterans were committing suicide per day, or one every 65 minutes. Thirty-one percent of these suicides were by veterans 49 and younger while 69 percent were by veterans age 50 and older. “I will say the new statistics – the number is even higher and that is really sad,” said Frank Dailey, a former Air Force Chief Master Sgt. from Navarre who works volunteering with struggling veterans.

4 year old struck by car
On Sunday evening March 13 at around 6 p.m., a 4 year old wandered away from the Simpson River fishing pier and into traffic in the westbound lanes of U.S. Highway 90. James Nance of Pace was traveling in the outside westbound lane and the 2007 Ford Explorer he was driving struck the child’s right side.

Deputy at fault in crash
A Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office deputy, William Adams, was driving his marked patrol car east on Old Bagdad Highway on March 11 at around 10:15 p.m. The Florida Highway Patrol says Adams failed to yield the right of way at the stop intersection of Old Bagdad Highway and Forsyth Road and entered the path of a Jeep Cherokee. The front of the Jeep struck the passenger side of the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office patrol car.
