Will economy take a hit from jobs freeze?
In a presidential memorandum released Jan. 23, President Trump ordered a freeze on the hiring of Federal civilian employees. The order said no vacant positions existing at noon Jan. 22 may be filled and no new positions could be created, except in limited circumstances. The memo clearly excluded all military personnel and it went further to exempt any positions that are deemed necessary to meet national security or public safety responsibilities.

Holley home gutted by fire
At 6:15 a.m., Feb. 4, the Holley-Navarre Fire District responded to a residential structure fire in the 3300 block of Doddie Lane in Holley. The dispatch center advised they were receiving multiple 911 calls reporting smoke and flames from the residence.

Peoples appointed to advisory council
Dottie Peoples retired as the executive director of the Northwest Florida Area Agency on Aging in 2011. She still serves on the agency’s board and was recently given another opportunity to work closely with the group, landing a spot on the Florida Department of Elderly Affairs Advisory Council.
