Surprise renaming of Navarre Park fizzles

Without consulting key stakeholders or polling constituents, Commissioner Rob Williamson placed an agenda item on the County Commissioners’ agenda to rename Navarre Park to Navarre Memorial Park only to pull it after hearing the sentiments of the other commissioners and the public. The only notice given was in the backup materials provided for the meeting which offered less than 24 “business hours’” notice before the meeting commenced.

Black Hawk Memorial groundbreaking set

Shortly after the training crash of a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter into the waters of the Navarre sound on March 10, the Leadership Santa Rosa Class 29 began planning a memorial project in memory of the 11 service members killed.  The Navarre Black Hawk Memorial is projected to cost nearly $100,000 and will be placed to the left of the large pavilion in Navarre Park.

Sheriff’s Office investigates two armed robberies

The Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating two armed robberies, one occurred in Navarre and the other in Milton, both along State Road 87.  As of press time, investigators were still investigating with no new updates.

Deputies investigating Milton murder

Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a Palomino Street address in Milton at around 7 a.m. in reference to a medical emergency on Wednesday, Jan. 20.  When they arrived, deputies discovered Brandy Christine Maples, 29, of Milton was deceased.  Maples had suffered trauma to the head that was indicative of foul play.
