Hurricane Hunters inside eye as Michael makes landfall
Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi – The 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron started flying into Hurricane Michael Sunday and over the next four days observed it intensify from a possible tropical depression to a Category 4 storm, which made landfall near Mexico Beach, Florida, at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Spectre Post 11367 and its Auxiliary presented a check for $43,000 to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation Sept. 22. Members of the post in Mary Esther have been fundraising for the foundation for seven years.

History making hurricane
Hurricane Michael will go down in history as one of the strongest hurricanes to hit the United States since Hurricane Andrew and is the strongest to hit the Panhandle of Florida ever. The Category 4 storm spun up so fast that weather forecasters had little time to get the forecast right. But early on the prediction models agreed that at some point the hurricane would take an eastward turn as it headed north in the Gulf. The question was when and where.
