Unidentified body found in boat at national seashore
Authorities are investigating the discovery of a body found at Gulf Islands National Seashore Sunday.
The body, which has not yet been identified, was found on a sailboat that was anchored in shallow water on the north shore of the park’s Naval Live Oaks area.
Winter storms likely to lead to gas price increases
Motorists should brace themselves for even higher gas prices in
the days ahead, enhanced by the extreme cold weather hitting much of the country. According to GasBuddy, a travel and navigation app, the national average price of gasoline may jump 10-20 cents per gallon from its current price of $2.54 per gallon over the next two weeks as millions of barrels of refining capacity has gone offline due to the extreme cold in the South, with little relief on the horizon as overall gasoline demand continues to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rescued pigs happy to ‘be on dry land’
As the investigation into an alleged animal rescue in Laurel Hill continues, workers at the Panhandle Animal Welfare Society are providing temporary homes for six adult pigs and eight juvenile pigs.
The pigs had been living in a pit of standing water and feces at the “Frye Branch Rescue,” before animal control workers saved them Friday.

‘Turner House’ lawsuit heads to mediation
A judge has ordered Santa Rosa County and the owners of the “Turner House” to head to mediation before an April court date.
The mediation would attempt to resolve issues lingering from a 2016 lawsuit the county filed against Staci and Gary Turner, live out of state but own the home at 7315 Gulf Boulevard on Navarre Beach. The lawsuit has been amended multiple times in the last five years.

Mid-week may bring new round of severe weather
Northwest Florida residents are being urged to beware of black ice overnight and into Tuesday morning. The thin icy glaze may appear to motorists that the road is simply wet. It may remain until temperatures rise above freezing.
But once temperatures warm enough to eliminate that risk, the area may be looking at severe storms developing Wednesday night into Thursday morning, according to local officials .

COVID changes McGuire’s 5K but doesn’t cancel it

Navarre Beach, Pensacola Beach connected again
On Friday morning, the beach road, aka J Earle Bowden Way, Highway 399 opened to passenger vehicles for the first time since Hurricane Sally.
Peggy Self, a tourist from Indiana who has been staying on Navarre Beach for two weeks, was walking her dog when park officials opened the gate to traffic at 8 a.m. She said one Jeep and two cars were waiting at the gate to be the first to enjoy the scenic route. The drivers and passengers smiled as they drove through, Self said.
