Each year, Santa Rosa and Escambia Counties’ middle school students venture to NAS Pensacola for a lesson in science, technology, engineering and math.
Holley-Navarre Middle School is one of the participating schools.

At the Sept. 8 Board of County Commissioners meeting, commissioners discussed raising fees across Santa Rosa County—including on boats, parks and facility rental fees and animal services fees. Consensus across these discussions made it clear, such fee costs in the county would be going up. During the Sept. 11 commissioner meeting, the new fees were approved.

The Department of the Air Force has selected Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona, as the new location for the 492nd Special Operations Wing.

A Navarre man died Wednesday night, Sept. 10, after he ran into the side of an SUV while riding a motorcycle on Highway 98.

Navarre High School Principal Kasie Windfelder was recently tapped to become the first principal of Soundside High School, a school currently being built on Highway 98 across from the Gulf Breeze Zoo.
The new school is scheduled to be finished sometime in late spring or early summer 2026, with the first class walking through its doors that fall.

Navarre Beach Fire Chief Daniel Fureigh was arrested Tuesday, Sept. 9, by Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office for Driving Under the Influence (DUI).
