COVID cases continue to drop in county, along with new vaccinations
The number of new COVID cases in Santa Rosa County continues to drop, with just 360 new cases reported last week, according to the Florida Department of Health. The positivity rate is at 10.9%, compared to a high of 30% during the peak of the recent wave.
Red tide steers clear of Santa Rosa County
The weekly report from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission indicated Friday that red tide, although affecting our neighbors to the east, has not been observed in Santa Rosa County.
It has been observed in small to medium concentrations in or offshore of Okaloosa, Walton and Bay counties, the latest report said.

New nonstop service offered locally to Minneapolis, Las Vegas
Allegiant Airlines announced Friday morning that it would be offering new nonstop service to Minneapolis and Las Vegas out of Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport. The Minneapolis route begins Friday, Oct. 1, while the Las Vegas service takes off Oct. 7.
The new flights will be offered twice a week.

DEP: Holley-Navarre treatment facility not factor in odor near golf course
A Department of Environmental Protection investigation into reports of a fecal odor near Hidden Creek Golf Course found no evidence of abnormal operations, according to a press release sent out by Holley-Navarre Water System.
There have been no “exceedances” since January 2021, according to DEP’s response.

Thursday morning, there was no house at 7509 Gulf Boulevard.
By just after noon, one-quarter of a 3,000-plus square foot home had been trucked down the road, lifted and lowered into place. Within a few hours, that percentage was up to half. By sunset, the whole structure was expected to be in place on pilings.
