Santa Rosa County officials confirmed Wednesday that a Tractor Supply store is in the works for Navarre.
Pier opening delayed Saturday for clean-up
The opening of the Navarre Beach Pier will be delayed until 9 a.m. on Sat., Oct. 9 to allow a group of divers a chance to clean up debris from the pier pilings and nearby sand from 7-9 a.m.
Heavy rain, failing infrastructure challenge county
County officials closed a section of East Bay Boulevard Monday night after a part of the roadway began to sink. Temporary repairs Tuesday allowed it to be reopened, but future work will be needed.
UPDATE: Boil water notice lifted
Due to lightning striking a 10” water main this morning at the corner of Bob Tolbert Road and Forester Road, Holley-Navarre Water System is issuing a precautionary boil water notice for residents affected by the outage.
Affected Holley residents include those located from Bob Tolbert Road at Holley Ball Field, up to and including Natalie Lane to Levi Street and Ginger Lane. Forester Road from Bob Tolbert Rd eastward to Wells Beach Road is also included.
Info sought about driver in fatal hit and run
The Florida Highway Patrol is hoping someone will come forward with information about a fatal accident on East Bay Boulevard that happened early on Oct. 1.
A 24-year-old Gulf Breeze man was killed by a vehicle that left the scene of the accident. The victim was walking in the eastbound travel lane when he was struck and killed. The accident happened just west of Zilla Street, according to FHP.
Local Vietnam vets ‘welcomed home’
Wreaths Across America’s Mobile Education Exhibit tour made a stop in Navarre at the Navarre United Methodist Church parking lot on Tuesday. Three local veterans were honored by the Mobile Education Exhibit’s Ambassador and Driver Stefan Brann in front of a room full of family members and visitors.
Fort Pickens closed due to flooding
The Fort Pickens Area of Gulf Islands National Seashore will close today, Oct. 5 at 1:00 pm through Thursday, October 7 due to flooding of Fort Pickens Road and Campground. All campground reservations for Fort Pickens will be postponed or cancelled through Thursday, October 7. Park staff will continue to assess conditions for a potential reopening on Friday, Oct. 8.
There is currently a minimum of 6 inches of standing water in some areas along Fort Pickens Road.
East Bay Boulevard reopens after temporary repair
East Bay Boulevard at 6244 is now open following repairs made by public works crews. A metal road plate has been put in place over the roadway to make it safe for motorists to drive over this area as a temporary solution.
Portion of East Bay Boulevard sinking, closed until further notice
East Bay Boulevard is closed at 6244 until further notice due to the road being compromised.
“The road is sinking in that location,” said Santa Rosa County Public Information Officer Sarah Whitfield. “The ground is probably just incredibly wet.”
Water over the roadway at intersection of Reef Street and Masters Boulevard
Motorists should avoid the intersection of Reef Street and Masters Boulevard in Navarre due to high water over the roadway. The detour is Cove Road to Summit Drive to PGA Boulevard to Masters Boulevard.
