Railroad museum applies for grant to refurbish old cars
West Florida Railroad Museum in Milton is among the list of applicants reviewed for tax capital funding project grants at Thursday’s Tourism Development Council meeting. The museum is the former Milton train depot, which was built more than 100 years ago and currently faces significant deterioration.
Course remains closed, tension continues over neighborhood flooding
The Club at Hidden Creek remains closed as officials deal with flooding due to heavy rains in the past few weeks. Chief Executive Officer Dallas Peavey said over two feet of rain fell on the course in a short period of time and the ground is saturated.
Navarre truck driver slightly injured in Pace accident
Both drivers were slightly injured early Tuesday morning when a 30-year-old Pace man failed to yield to oncoming traffic at an intersection and was hit by a truck. The driver of the truck was a 63-year-old man from Navarre.

- Fish and Wildlife Conservation is investigating two abandoned, derelict vessels in the Santa Rosa Sound. A preliminary investigation shows that neither vessel is leaking any oil or fuel.
Updated: Judge grants Waste Pro injunction against Adams Sanitation, Adams must halt service
A judge ruled Monday that Adams Sanitation, which started service in south Santa Rosa County Oct. 4, has been operating illegally and must stop that service.
New school breaks ground in Pace
A groundbreaking ceremony for a new K-8 school in Pace was held on behalf of the Santa Rosa County School District (SRCSD) on Monday.
Highway 98 closure planned for Oct. 23
Digital billboards are giving motorists along U.S. Highway 98 notice that the busy highway will have some closures on Saturday, Oct. 23. The signs are placed along both sides of the road at various spots.
Ian Satter, spokesman for the Florida Department of Transportation, said more information will be released later but that the closure is required for work to be done on the pedestrian walkway over the highway near Hurlburt Field.
20th annual Navarre Car Show attracts more than 120 car lovers
More than 120 colorful vehicles lined the parking lot of Navarre High School Oct. 9 at the 20th annual Navarre Car, Truck & Bike Show.
“These are the best cars we’ve ever had,” organizer and president of Pirates on the Panhandle Mark Miller said. “They’re not just cars, they’re like works of art.”
County works to improve condition of Navarre Beach public facilities
The Santa Rosa County Tourism Development Council received an update Oct. 7 from Julie White, director of the TDC, about issues with maintenance, vandalism, pavilions, parking lots, beach sand and trash. According to officials, residents have complained about the conditions of Navarre Beach as of late and officials are working to find solutions.
Council members called the conditions “unsatisfactory” after the presentation concluded, citing a need to expand maintenance crew staff to handle the growing number of visitors.
