Temperatures are expected to drop into the 30s by Saturday night and Santa Rosa County will open its first cold weather shelter of the year Saturday. The shelter, which is operated by Ferris Hill Baptist Church, is at 6848 Chaffin St., Milton. Only service animals are allowed and no one will be admitted after 8:30 p.m.

The road sign on a wooded lot on U.S. Highway 98 across from the Tiger Point Publix announces the future location of Momentum Church and assures that “No perfect people are allowed.”

This 19-acre parcel of land will be Momentum’s first permanent location. Presently, its five campuses meet weekly either in rented facilities or online.

Caring and Sharing of South Santa Rosa County is grateful to Gulf Breeze High School and Navarre High School for their school spirit and support in sponsoring another ‘Caring and Sharing Beach Soup Bowl Challenge’ by competing in a collection of nonperishable food items.

Navarre High School brought in 7,641 cans compared to Gulf Breeze’s 2,385 items.

Unexpected federal funding for stormwater runoff control projects might be coming to Santa Rosa County.

The Milton City Council met Nov. 9 to appoint a replacement to fill the unexpired term of David Richardson, who resigned last month due to health issues. Under the requirements of the City Charter, the Council had 60 days to complete the appointment process.

The following update is provided as part of the Navy’s ongoing private drinking water testing around Naval Air Station (NAS) Whiting Field and its Outlying Landing  Fields (OLFs) in Florida and Alabama for the emerging, national environmental issue of PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances). Based on sampling results from private drinking water wells in the sampling areas, the Navy is expanding the sampling areas near NAS Whiting Field, OLF Barin and OLF Wolf.
