James Calkins wants Santa Rosa County ready to act if the U.S. Supreme Court overturns its 1973 Roe versus Wade decision, which has protected women’s right to seek an abortion for almost five decades.

A 29 year old Milton man was booked into jail on June 3 after investigators with the Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office began looking into him following a traffic stop.

The man, Mark Anthony Frate, was stopped on June 3 after a sergeant with Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office noticed that Frate was driving down the road at four in the morning with a two year old in his lap. The two year old was unrestrained in the car.

The Santa Rosa County Commission on Thursday approved using 150 acres in East Milton for educational facilities, clearing the way for two new schools to be built on the property despite concerns about traffic and stormwater infrastructure.

Santa Rosa County Animal Services (SRCAS) has stepped up to take on a large case in the community that involves over 50 medium-sized unsocialized dogs. There is also a high risk of rip currents along Navarre Beach through Friday night. Santa Rosa County Emergency Management officials are encouraging residents to monitor local weather reports and have multiple ways to receive weather warnings, especially overnight.
