Strokes have become a major health issue in Northwest Florida.
The Pensacola area, to include Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties, have stroke victim rates far exceeding state and national averages. In 2024, Escambia County had 75 deaths from stroke per 100,000 population and Santa Rosa County wasn’t far behind with 67.6.

Veterans Day is held annually each Nov. 11 in honor of all of those who have served in the U.S. military.
In addition to remembering the sacrifices of those who served, the day is also filled with a variety of discounts from various businesses and restaurants for veterans.

U.S. Rep. Jimmy Patronis is looking for ways to help the military in his first year in Congress.
The Northwest Florida congressman recently introduced legislation to prioritize infrastructure projects based on their importance to civil or national defense. The bill is called the Warrior Road Act.

U.S. Rep. Jimmy Patronis this spring won a special election to replace former U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz in a Northwest Florida district. Patronis, a Republican, served nearly eight years as the state’s chief financial officer before his April election to Congressional District 1. Patronis, whose father and uncle started the popular Captain Anderson’s restaurant in Panama City, also served in the state House and as a member of the Florida Public Service Commission.

Holley Navarre Water System issued a precautionary water boil notice yesterday for parts of Holley. As of Nov. 6, that notice has been rescinded.

YMCA of Northwest Florida has submitted plans to Santa Rosa County for a 2,116-square-foot building addition at the Betty J. Pullum Family YMCA in Navarre.
