Corrosion found in Wastewater Treatment Plant piping during inspection

Those were the words Holley-Navarre Water System CEO Jeff Crigler used when describing the condition of the primary influent force main at the system’s wastewater treatment plant, located on Pepper Drive in the Holley by the Sea neighborhood.

New Florida law aims to shorten firefighter shifts, expand mental health options
Earlier this month, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed House Bill (HB) 929 at the 81st annual Convention of the Florida Professional Firefighters, held in Palm Beach Gardens.
The bill, which becomes law July 1, updates the Florida Firefighters Occupational Safety and Health Act to include occupational diseases and suicide prevention. The new law will also direct the State Fire Marshal to adopt clear rules to mitigate health risks, including mental health impacts and toxic substance exposure.

Michael’s acquires JOANN Fabrics’ brands
The Michaels Companies, Inc. recently announced it has completed the acquisition of the intellectual property and private label brands of JOANN, including the development of JO-ANN brands, such as Big Twist, as part of the Michaels portfolio.
In addition, Michaels is expanding its fabric, sewing, and yarn assortment, adding over 600 products across new and existing brands, including sewing and quilting supplies, fabric, yarn, specialty threads, sewing machines and more.

Senior chill out raises over $48K, hundreds of A/C units and fans
The Pete Moore Automotive Team Senior Chill Out, which raises funds and collects fans and A/C units for senior citizens in Northwest Florida, was a success June 6.
The annual event, which is organized through the Council on Aging of West Florida, saw 316 fans, 295 window air conditioner units and $48,441 donated by people in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.

Momentum Church holds fundraiser to build commercial kitchen for community
For most of its history, Momentum Church has been a mobile church, using rented spaces to worship and hold events.
Last year, the church, which has several satellite campuses around Escambia and Santa Rosa counties, bought a building of Summit Boulevard in Pensacola to use as a permanent church and a community outreach center. The building also houses church offices.
To help purchase and renovate the building, the church held “Heart for the House,” an annual fundraiser organized to help gather funding for large scale projects of the church or to help the community.

Levin Papantonio brings wrongful death suit against Pace Pharmacy
The saga around Pace Pharmacy continues.
Levin Papantonio law firm has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the pharmacy and individuals, Stephen Allen Burklow, Monique Burklow and David Barron Winkles, all of whom stand accused of trafficking prescription drugs. They were all arrested last month by Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office following a multiyear investigation.
