Harvard recognizes women’s veteran entrepreneurship program

The Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, recognized the Veteran Women Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship (V-WISE) program as part of the 2015 Bright Ideas program. Offered through partnership between the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and the Institute for Veteran and Military Families at Syracuse University, V-WISE provides comprehensive entrepreneurial training to women veterans, active duty and female family members.

Tax season is here, so gather your W-2, 1040EZ and 1040 forms and head to the Hurlburt Field Tax Center. According to the Internal Revenue Service, tax season officially started Jan. 20, and for air commandos the Hurlburt Field Tax Center will be open through April 15.

1 SOSFS Airman first to complete ATF Odor Test

Staff Sgt. Terrell Beasley, 1st Special Operations Security Forces Squadron military working dog handler, is the first Air Force Special Operations Command military dog handler to complete the Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosive, National Odor Recognition Testing. NORT is familiarizing, training and certifying detector dogs on the most common explosives involved in homeland terrorist threats.

NAS Whiting Field announces Sailors of the Quarter

Naval Air Station Whiting Field (NASWF) recently announced its Sailors of the Quarter for the first quarter fiscal year 2015. This awards program is designed to give recognition to the top performing sailors at various levels of enlisted service. The Sailor of the Quarter is the top performing first class petty officer. The Junior Sailor of the Quarter is the best performing second class petty officer. Lastly, the Blue Jacket of the Quarter is the most impressive sailor in the junior ranks.

Free lecture will discuss Eglin AFB in the movies

In addition to being the center for testing the latest aircraft and weapons and being a home for Air Force and Army special operations, Eglin Air Force Base is also a movie star. Movies have been filmed at Eglin since the 1940s, including such films as 1949’s “Twelve O'Clock High” and 1964’s “Dr. Strangelove.” Many have featured units and personnel from Eglin.
