The Navarre United Methodist Church (NUMC) hosted a Back to School Bash Aug. 9 in Navarre that featured free backpack, school supplies, clothing and haircuts for local children.

Children turn loose their ‘inner artist’
More than 40 children completed last week First Baptist Church Navarre’s annual arts camp. Students selected from one of four areas, and then studied it all week. Options included traditional visual arts, cake decorating, learning Spanish or learning to play drums.

Every Sunday, Ferris Hill Baptist’s pastor ends his sermons with a charge for his congregation. “Let’s go be the church,” said Pastor Brian Nall, whose flock for eight years has spent Mondays preparing food and sorting donated clothes which are given away each Tuesday.

Candidates, locals split on same-sex marriage ruling
Gov. Rick Scott and his chief Democratic rival Charlie Crist, as well as local residents seem to hold differing opinions about a judge’s ruling last week that overturned the state’s constitutional ban on same-sex marriage. The ruling only applied to Monroe County.

First Baptist hosts ‘Fun Fest’
About 200 children and adults enjoyed First Baptist Navarre’s “Fun Fest” Sunday celebrating the successful conclusion of the church’s Backyard Kid’s Clubs Vacation Bible School (VBS). This year’s VBS was the first one held in neighborhood locations rather than the church.

Bible boot camp hits Midway
Reverend Pete Belmain was all smiles as he welcomed 20 children into Bible B.O.O.T. camp at Midway Baptist Church July 10. The children checked in before heading to stations where they had an id photo taken, got physicals, had “gun range” training with BB guns before running through a timed obstacle course.

Backyard Kid’s Clubs
For the first time, First Baptist Church Navarre is holding its Vacation Bible School in community backyards, rather than at the church. Dr. John McInnis, Associate Pastor of Education at First Baptist Navarre, said he has been involved in community-based Vacation Bible School programs since 1973.
