End-of-course scores show progress
Students in school districts from the Florida Panhandle improved their scores on state end-of-course (EOC) assessments Algebra 1, Geometry, Biology 1 and U.S History.

Kids’ art tag program raises $18K in first year
A kids’ art program initiated by Santa Rosa County Tax Collector Stan Colie Nichols raised $18,000 for local school arts programs in its first year. Santa Rosa County School elementary art teachers encouraged students to design artwork for tags. Those tags were then offered for purchase, and proceeds will be used to fund the purchase of art supplies for the schools.
Navarre principals honored with annual awards
Three of Navarre’s principals were recognized recently as principals of the year as part of a statewide program that recognizes principals who demonstrate highly effective leadership. Liz West, BJ Price and Robert Trigg were all recognized with the award at the county level.

More FCAT scores delivered
The Florida Department of Education released Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) results June 6 for Reading, Math and Science in grades four through 10. Santa Rosa County eighth grade students ranked first in Florida for math. Reading scores for fifth, seventh, ninth and tenth grade took second place honors. Fifth and seventh grade math scores also took second place.
Navarre schools honor faculty, staff retirements
When students return to classes in August, some familiar faces will be missing from Navarre area schools.
Holley-Navarre Middle’s Della Ratta honored
Pete Della Ratta of Holley-Navarre Middle School has been selected by the Dairy Council of Florida to be inducted into the Fuel Up to Play 60 National Hall of Fame. He was selected for his active leadership role and dedication to creating a healthier school environment with the Fuel Up to Play 60 (FUTP60) program.
FCAT scores show improvement
Santa Rosa County students responded to tougher standards in the latest round of testing by continuing to rank near the top in Florida for student achievement.
Young artists celebrated at blue ribbon ceremony
Holley Navarre Intermediate School students celebrated the end of the school year with an art show May 22. From about 800 students, 300 artists were chosen to receive a blue ribbon for excellence in art.
