Bill to allow guns in schools died
Tallahassee (AP) – The Florida House April 28 passed legislation that would allow trained officials to carry guns in schools, but a companion bill died May 2 in the Senate.

Santa Rosa has one of the state’s STAR superintendents
Santa Rosa County Superintendent of Schools Tim Wyrosdick has been recognized as one Florida’s 2013 STAR Superintendents by a nomination through the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations. The annual award is given to one superintendent, and Wyrosdick was one of four nominees for the top honor, which ultimately went to Broward County Superintendent Robert Runcie in December.

Hazardous materials scare at Pre-K school
Law enforcement and emergency services personnel were busy April 25 responding to a reported hazardous materials incident at T.R. Jackson Pre-K School, 4950 Susan Road in Milton where eight adults were transported to hospitals but were later evaluated and released.

Navarre student’s art wins best in show
The Humanities, Fine & Performing Arts Division at Northwest Florida State College annually holds a juried student art exhibition, and this year, the top honor went to Marcus Gibbs of Navarre. Gibbs earned “Best in Show” honors for his artwork “After the Day” for the annual Arnie Hart Juried Exhibition.
