It’s a different approach. Instead of dividing, one classroom at Holley Navarre Primary is multiplying. As of Oct. 8, a few lucky kindergartners got the opportunity to learn from two teachers in one classroom.
During the 2014 summer break an Instragram account named TBR.Woodlawn was created anonymously with the intent to ridicule Woodlawn Beach Middle School (WBMS) students.
“Students have really looked at the change as a privilege and they are really kind of self-monitoring (cell phones),” David Gunter, Santa Rosa County School District (SRCSD) Director of Middle Schools, said.
Parents of Holley Navarre Middle School sixth graders had the chance to walk in their children’s shoes Sept. 24 as they participated in “Bring your parent to school day.”
Beginning Oct. 1, all potential new employees of the Santa Rosa County School District must sign an affidavit, stating they have not used tobacco products during the previous six months — else they will not be hired.
Navarre schools have experienced skyrocketing growth in the 2014-2015 school year. The district has enrolled 691 more students than they originally projected.
By the end of the 2012-2013 school year, 787 local high school students shaved off anywhere from $4,000 to $10,000 of the cost toward nailing down a future career. These students walked away from graduation with a diploma and industry certifications like agricultural technician, ASE suspension and steering, Adobe Illustrator expert and Pharmacy technician.
The Golden School Award is given annually by the Florida Department of Education in recognition of public schools with exemplary volunteer programs, and six Navarre area schools earned the designation for the 2013-2014 school year.
Discontent among some public school bus drivers is reaching a fevered pitch. More than a dozen drivers showed up at the Sept. 11 Santa Rosa School Board meeting, complaining that Durham School Services, the district’s transportation provider, disrespects employees and fails to maintain its fleet of 214 buses.
