While rivalry week tends to be a competitive time between Navarre and Gulf Breeze high schools, this year’s food drive steered away from the traditional competition to respond to a need within the wider community.
Addressing issues ranging from algae blooms fed by fertilizer runoff to an increasing number of bear encounters due to loss of habitat, the Navarre Garden Club has created the Decontaminate Navarre speaker series to help the community tackle concerns facing our environment.
Amy Woodland is the Walk to End Alzheimer’s manager in the Panhandle, and when she thinks about this event, the largest in the world to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research, she considers it a celebration.
This past week, Stan Nichols had the honor of presenting the school board with a check to be split between the county elementary schools, thanks to the Kids Tag Art program. Each distribution will go to the fifth-grade art program at the 14 Santa Rosa elementary schools to be used to purchase art supplies. The Tax Collector’s office Kids Tag Art Program has raised just under $54,000 since the program’s implementation in 2013.
