Gulf Breeze High School student Blake Barclay is the first from Santa Rosa County to be selected as a senator for the national Boys Nation in Washington D.C. Two representatives from each state will be at the event.
The Santa Rosa School District is back on top of the rankings with an A grade for the 2016-17 school year. Last year, for the first time in more than a decade, the district’s ranking had slipped to a B grade.
After Tropical Storm Cindy battered the Panhandle, Audubon researchers found that the storm wiped out many of the shorebird chicks and eggs along northwest Florida’s coastline, including Navarre Beach.
Coming over the bridge onto Navarre Beach, visitors are greeted by nesting shore birds and rolling sand dunes. They are also greeted by a vacant building in need of repair.
When volunteers swarm Navarre Beach to collect garbage each month, cigarette butts often fill their collection buckets. Thousands of these burned, squished and tossed pieces of trash are left on the beach to eventually wash into the Gulf of Mexico.
