Navarre Beach Lifeguards, Fire Rescue member honored
On Sept. 21, Navarre Beach Fire Rescue Fire Chief Danny Fureigh honored several lifeguards and a member of Navarre Beach Fire Rescue at an awards ceremony.
Lifeguards Garrett Edwards, Daniel Walsh, Ryan Conner, and Austin Koenigseder were honored for helping save a diver in distress at the reef near Navarre Beach over the Summer. John Becker was recognized as a Lifeguard of the Year for the 2022 season. Cole Burton received recognition as the Most Improved Lifeguard of the Year for the 2022 season. Zack Miller was named Lifeguard Rookie of the Year for the 2022 season. The NBFR member who was honored was Patrick Wissing, who became a full time member of NBFR recently. Wissing is a firefighter/paramedic.
On the farm: LEAD Academy teaches everything agriculture
When you go to LEAD Academy off Chumuckla Highway, you might hear teachers teaching arithmetic, children talking and playing, and… cows mooing?
Not too many schools have a barn, but LEAD Academy is not your typical school. Founded in 2013, LEAD Academy is a private, Christian academy that teaches things such as grammar, logic, and rhetoric. On top of those, they also have an agriculture program.Navarre Beach Lifeguards honored

Gulf Breeze native named president of University of Alabama-Huntsville
On Sept. 16, the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees recommended and unanimously approved the appointment of Dr. Charles L. Karr to president of The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH). Karr is a native of Gulf Breeze and has been in the University of Alabama System for the better part of three decades.

9/11 Remembered: Navarre highlights anniversary of attacks with events
At the Sept. 11 Memorial Stair Climb, firefighters had to climb 110 floors worth of stairs in honor of the first responders who climbed the stairwells of the World Trade Center 21 years ago. The firefighters came from across Northwest Florida. Navarre Beach, Holley Navarre, Midway, Pensacola, Panama City, Crestview and a few other fire departments were present.
