Saturday, Jan. 21, brought lots of smiles and joy for Bettie Appleberg. Her friends and church family were throwing a surprise party at Navarre United Methodist Church in honor of her 95th birthday, which was on Jan. 20.

Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office has gone to the dogs! Or, at least, they are very excited about telling the community about them. The law enforcement agency recently started an initiative to reach out to the community and positively engage them in what the K9 unit does. As a part of that initiative, the Sheriff’s Office has created a special set of trading cards that highlight the various K9s in the unit.

Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center (NBSTCC) welcomed a new arrival at their facility Saturday, Jan. 7. While most of their new arrivals have shells and flippers, this one had tires and an engine. The center acquired a new rescue van to help transport turtles in a safe and secure environment. For NBSTCC Director Cathy Holmes and the NBSTCC Sea Turtle Rescue Team, the new van is a major improvement from what they had been using.

Hundreds of Santa Rosa County and nearby residents packed the Imogene Theatre in Milton Thursday, Dec. 8 for a night of music, stories, and Southern charm. They came to see Sean Dietrich, better known as Sean of the South, who was there to perform with Fairhope, Ala.-based Bluegrass band Blue Mullet.

The American Legion Riders Chapter 382 in Navarre is holding their 7th Annual Ride for the Claus benefitting our Navarre and Midway area less fortunate children, special needs children, foster children, Gold Star Military Families, and both the Navarre Gardens Nursing Homes. Each year the list has grown and now they deliver presents to more than 300 children. These rides will take place on Saturday, December 17th and December 18th from 9am to 3pm in the Navarre and Midway community. They also held rides on Saturday, Dec. 10 and Sunday, Dec. 11.
