The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office recently arrested the owners of Kirkham Kattery Rescue in Milton on charges of animal cruelty after 225 felines were removed from their residence. After removal, the cats were taken to the Santa Rosa County Animal Services facility where Dr. Natalie Dyson, a Navarre veterinarian, worked late into the night evaluating the animals.

Two years ago amid budget constraints and after a canine suffered a career-ending injury, the Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office asked the community’s help to purchase more canines for their K-9 unit. The response was incredible with over $30,000 raised for the unit, which requires periodic animal replacement. Once again, the community is rallying to support for the award-winning K-9 unit. The Santa Rosa County Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Class is holding a golf tournament in August to help fund the purchase of another canine officer.
