PENSACOLA – The Blue Angels’ homecoming show next November over the skies of Pensacola and Pensacola Beach will be a day longer, the Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron announced last week.

The local chapter of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks hosted its annual turkey shoot and festival on Sunday at the lodge. In addition to having fun, the purpose of the event was to help families in need during the holiday season and celebrate the club’s efforts in providing occupational therapy to the children of Northwest Florida.

Santa Claus will trade his sleigh for a paddle board this weekend and will visit the Navarre Beach Marine Science Station on Friday and Saturday afternoon.

Christmas trees are being used as an avenue to spread joy to needy children in the community.

Commissioners took action Nov. 14 to allow developer James A. “Jim” Young, Jr. to construct a borrow pit on property located within the county’s expanded well field protection area.  The commission had adopted an ordinance Mar. 7, expanding the area to provide further protection of the local water supply, including a ban on resource extraction, such as dirt removal.

Business and recreation were intertwined Monday evening as the Tiger Point Community Center was officially opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

The Grill Restaurant at The Club at Hidden Creek is revamping its image. Pending approval from the Holley-Navarre Water System board of directors, the golf course’s restaurant will undergo a rebranding effort complete with new name, logo and additional southern-style menu items.

State Rep. Doug Broxson and Sheriff Wendell Hall were chopped last Thursday night.

Political newcomer Yvonne Harper was last to file for candidacy in the 2014 Santa Rosa County Commissioner-District 4 seat, but she feels her experience in public policy and community relations should place her first in the polls come August.
