Grant funds ‘iffy’ for Navarre Park
Santa Rosa County in September applied for a $150,000 state grant to help fund improvements in Navarre Park, which would include development of permanent restrooms. Based on the grant application and its scoring system, the local application placed 80 out of 166 applications, which may be too far down the list to receive funding.
Hundreds head to home show
Even bright sunshine couldn’t keep area residents from heading inside the Days Inn Navarre Conference Center March 8 for the 2014 Navarre Home Show. The event featured more than 40 vendors showing highlighting their products and services for attendees.
Gas prices still climbing
The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Florida increased a penny last week and now stands at $3.46, just below the national average price of $3.49. When compared with the average price in Florida a year ago, motorists are saving 0.32 cents per gallon.

Spring forward with fire safety

Joe Early, fire inspector with the Holley-Navarre Fire District, wants to remind residents that springing forward is also a good time to change the batteries in smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.

Swarms of revelers lined Stewart Street in Milton Feb. 27 in hopes of catching beads and Moon Pies. Main Street Milton, a downtown revitalization organization, hosted their popular annual Mardi Gras parade.
Two county recycling centers to close
Santa Rosa County Commissioners voted Feb. 27 to permanently close two of the county’s 23 recycle drop-off sites. The Tiger Point Park Road and Five Points/Chumuckla Highway recycling drop off sites will permanently close March 14 due to health and safety risks resulting from illegal dumping.
