AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers are trading their typical service roles for aprons and chef’s hats for an upcoming community event that promises to deliver both flavor and purpose.

In the American South, food takes a place on the cultural mantel piece along with rocking chairs and banjo music. Even in today’s South, where people are more transient and familial connections to the past are oft forgot, you can still find hole-in-the-wall restaurants serving family recipes of gumbo, fried fish, slaw or barbecue. Chances are if you take a seat at one of these places, you might find yourself sharing a meal with John T. Edge.

Students from 16 schools in Santa Rosa County descended upon Pace High School’s football field for the inaugural north end edition of the Zack Butler Memorial Sports Ability Games Thursday, April 3.

Named for a physical education teacher and coach who lost his battle with cancer in 2022, the Sports Ability Games are designed to expand the field of opportunity for special needs students in athletics.

Navarre High’s Shock and Awe electric car team turned in a strong performance at Five Flags Speedway on March 28.

Navarre had three cars compete in the event and earned a first place, a second place and a fifth place in their respective divisions.

Under the direction of Jan Savage, the Navarre High Theatre Department received a standing ovation for their spring production, “Footloose the Musical” April 4 and 5. After months of rehearsals, practicing lines, choreography, body language and portraying emotion, the cast gave it their all last weekend and put on a superb production both nights. Many seniors plan to chase their dreams of careers in acting and music after graduation.

The 2025 Clover Pick A Bowl Fill A Bowl raised nearly $69,000 for Manna Food Bank thanks to the generosity of several local sponsors, artists, restaurants/food vendors, donors and event attendees. Money raised from the event will provide the equivalent of 41,400 healthy meals for hungry neighbors in need in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.

Tickets are now available for Gulf Coast Chorale’s April 25 Show, “Stories.” The show embraces the unique ability of music to tell a story that stays with us through all the seasons of life. These include stories of love, celebration, memories, coming of age, loss and more.

Hunter Englert got involved with the Navarre High Shock & Awe electric race car team at the end of the last school year.

And while he’s enjoyed learning a lot about the mechanics of a car and what goes into building one, his favorite thing is racing, especially in the car he basically built.

The Saenger Theatre in Pensacola has long anchored Palafox Street and been a beacon for the arts and entertainment industry in the region. On April 2, 2025, the theatre will celebrate its 100th anniversary with several events both on the anniversary date and the following Sunday.
