CERT adds 9 new members to first aid squad

County up for rare SAFE Community designation
Santa Rosa County could become the first county in the state of Florida designated as a SAFE Community through the National Safety Council. Evaluators are meeting today with local coordinators of the pursuit, led by county plans chief for emergency management Daniel Hahn.

Although Oliver Semmes graduated from Pensacola High School and Alabama Polytechnic Institute with a degree in industrial management and a Navy ROTC commission as an ensign, then retired from the Navy a captain, there’s no bronze statue of him like the one in Mobile of his great-great grandfather, naval hero, Admiral Raphael Semmes.
