Successful ‘Seussical’ prompts future productions
Navarre residents flocked to St. Sylvester Catholic Church to see Paradise Productions’ presentation of ‘Seussical the Musical’ Aug. 1 – 3. Tickets sold out for Saturday and Sunday’s presentations of the show that featured famous characters and scenes from the Dr. Seuss universe.

County researching use for landfill gas
Santa Rosa County recently installed a landfill gas, or LFG, collection and control system along with a blower/flare station at the Central Landfill in Milton. And now that the new system is operational, Santa Rosa County is conducting a study to determine the best use for the gas.

Building “Bridges Out of Poverty”
In Santa Rosa County, roughly four out of every 10 people are living in poverty conditions. To address their unmet needs, Dr. Karen Barber, a school district administrator, and other community leaders are starting a nonprofit organization called Santa Rosa Bridges.

‘We’re off to the see the wizard …’
The classic movie, “The Wizard of Oz,” celebrates its 75th anniversary later this month, and the Santa Rosa County Library System is celebrating with special programs. The first “Munch with Munchkins” was held Aug. 1 at the Navarre Library and included a viewing of the movie, as well as free popcorn and children’s crafts.

Injured Marine chooses Navarre for new home
Sgt. Anthony McDaniel was all smiles during a ceremonial groundbreaking Aug.2 in Navarre. McDaniel lost both legs and his left hand when he stepped on an improvised explosive device (IED) in Kajaki, Afghanistan during his second deployment Aug. 31, 2010.

Shrimp and a whole lot more
About 150 people enjoyed a delicious shrimp boil July 26 hosted by the Holley by the Sea Fishing Club. Before attendees headed through the line to enjoy the shrimp feast, three check presentations were made benefiting local charities.
