Volunteers to shave their heads for breast cancer awareness
Formally known as Think Pink Navarre, the Pink Pirates are prepping for a head-shaving event called “The Bald and the Beautiful,” with a goal of raising money and awareness for breast cancer.

Wide support for slashing vehicle registration fees
In 2009 former Florida Governor Charlie Christ signed into law a significant increase in annual motor vehicle registration fees. There is now wide spread support to reverse that action. Senator Joe Negron (R-Stuart) filed legislation last fall, proposing a reduction in those annual fees. So far the bill has passed two out of three committees without the first nay vote.

Local housing market posts gains
A report released last week by Florida Realtors® showed housing sales in the Pensacola-Ferry Pass-Brent MSA, which includes Santa Rosa and Escambia counties, outpaced sales in other northwest Florida locations stretching as far as Panama City.

Commission picks Alabama firm to market Santa Rosa
A company based in Mobile, Alabama has been selected by county commissioners to provide marketing services for the Santa Rosa County Tourist Development Council (TDC). Davis, South, Barnette and Patrick Advertising agency was the top pick out of five competing firms, including three local businesses and one group based in Tennessee.

More than 100 Navarre area Cub Scouts started with blocks of wood and finished with custom-made hot rods just in time for this year’s Pinewood Derby, Jan. 18 and Jan. 25 at St. Sylvester’s Catholic Church, West Navarre Intermediate School and West Navarre Primary School.

Construction at Laredo and 87 underway
Motorists traveling on S.R. 87 in Navarre will see orange cones and barricades near Laredo Street. FDOT reports crews are working to replace pipe under the sidewalk on S.R. 87 and through the intersection of Laredo Street.
