Santa Rosa County Commissioners voted Feb. 27 to permanently close two of the county’s 23 recycle drop-off sites. The Tiger Point Park Road and Five Points/Chumuckla Highway recycling drop off sites will permanently close March 14 due to health and safety risks resulting from illegal dumping.

The Navarre Library joined others in the county and across the country in celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Theodor Seuss Geisel was born March 2, 1904 in Springfield, Mass., and the library had special displays and activities ready for the young and young-at-heart Friday, Saturday and Monday.

Residents of south Santa Rosa County have the opportunity this month to dispose of household hazardous waste at no charge without having to drive to the Central Landfill in Milton. Amnesty Day will be held from 8 a.m. to noon, March 29 at the Santa Rosa County South Side Service Center, 5819 Gulf Breeze Parkway in Midway. Amnesty Day is not a recycle day, but a special day for disposal of household hazardous waste that should not be thrown out with household garbage.
