State’s longest yard sale this weekend
The state’s longest yard sale, called “Flea Across Florida,” will take place Friday and Saturday along the U.S. 90 corridor, known as the Old Spanish Trail. The 272-mile sale route runs from Live Oak to Pensacola.

One vote away from reef cam
The Santa Rosa County Commissioners at their meeting today are expected to approve a $125,000 grant request, which in part would be used to purchase an underwater camera that could stream living video of marine life at the Navarre Beach Marine Sanctuary’s Gulfside reef.

Just a few days after retiring from the sheriff’s office, Sarver and her husband Frank packed up and headed for Meridian, Idaho.

They’re here, Formosan termites that is
The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) has investigated six reports of Formosan termites in Santa Rosa County during the first quarter of 2014. If the trend continues, the number of Formosan termite infestations would be 10 higher than last year’s total of 14.

Fins for Fisher House
Five three-man teams of divers – three Army and two Navy – hit the Santa Rosa Sound in Navarre at about 8 a.m. Saturday heading off on a 25k race to raise money for the Fisher House of the Emerald Coast. The Fisher House at Eglin Air Force Base provides military families housing close to a loved one during hospitalization for an illness, disease or injury.

Child Abuse Awareness Month
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and Santa Rosa Kids’ House, which provides services for abused children, is holding related awareness activities. Last year there were more than 1,500 reports of child abuse in Santa Rosa County, and the group hopes to curb that number through prevention efforts.
