For the seventh year, donations of food collected by letter carriers in Gulf Breeze are benefiting ACTS Ministry at Harbor at Holley Church. The national “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive is in its 22nd year.

SAFER annual meeting full of information
About 50 community leaders and volunteers turned out May 7 for SAFER’s 2014 annual meeting. Safer, the Support Alliance for Community Readiness, is the successor organization to the Santa Rosa Long Term Recovery Organization which developed after Hurricanes Ivan and Dennis.

Hundreds turnout for food distribution
State Reps. Mike Hill and Doug Broxson partnered May 8 with Farm Share, a nationwide relief organization, to distribute food and supplies to Santa Rosa County residents impacted by the flood. Even before the distribution officially began at 10 a.m., cars were lining up in the Winn Dixie parking lot waiting to receive food and supplies.

Navarre Fishing Rodeo changes dates
Organizers of the Navarre Fishing Rodeo have announced the second annual event will be held Sept. 27 and 28. The event had originally been scheduled for Father’s Day weekend June 14 – 15.

Big crowd for butterflies
Area residents were in Navarre Park before 10 a.m. Saturday waiting for the Panhandle Butterfly House to open for the season. Mary Derrick from University of Florida Extension Service told the crowd improvements had been made for this year.
