Santa Rosa County accounts for six percent of the 6,000 calls in the state the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission received in 2015 regarding bear problems. However, in 2015 the bear calls in Santa Rosa County declined to its lowest point since 2011 at 352. Rebekah Nelson, Regional Public Information Director for Florida Fish and Wildlife said, “We do not know for sure about the variation in numbers of calls. A main reason may be natural food source availability.”
Walk into Wayne and Pam Porter’s house and you will see the love for Jack Daniel’s whiskey, the brand. On one side of the dining room is a cabinet of collector bottles, limited edition bottles or different makes the company produced. Along the walls are Jack Daniels signs. Most Christmases and birthdays are filled with gifts of Jack Daniel’s merchandise, memorabilia or a bottle of the whiskey.
Eva McDonough answered the Navarre Beach Area Chamber of Commerce’s call to artists to produce a design for the official poster of the 32nd Annual Fun Fest at Navarre Beach. McDonough, a graphic designer and graduate of Pensacola State College spent about two months perfecting her entry for the contest.
It’s one of longest-standing events in Navarre, and one that keeps getting better with time. The Navarre Beach Area Chamber of Commerce’s 32nd Annual Navarre Fun Fest presented by Okaloosa Gas District will take place April 30, 2016 on Navarre Beach. The popular festival is a free event and open to the public.
The newly formed Holley-Navarre Historical Society held their first meeting Saturday and elected a board of directors for the group. Romi White, one of the organization’s founders, took no nominations from the floor. Instead, she nominated Connie Clarke as president, James Broxson as vice-president and Dee May as secretary/treasurer. While a few in the audience were unaware of who those people were, the vote went forward and the board installed. Two of the three board members were not present at the meeting.
