From the moment he wakes up in the morning until just before he settles into bed, John Morris sits in front of the space heater in his trailer on Laredo Street.
“We’re the woods, in the woods, outta the woods, whatever,” cracked Denzil “Woody” Woods after a toe-tapping celebration that our names had something in common. Well, maybe we didn’t do a toe-tap, but we did notice the comparison – aw heck, you get the idea.
Like most folks, when someone says they’re from Memphis, folks want to know if they knew Elvis, so when Evelyn Allison said she was born in Memphis, I asked, “Did you ever meet Elvis?”
The volunteer effort to construct public restrooms at Navarre Park is moving along quickly. James Dabney, who is leading the project, said he hopes the restrooms will be operational by the second week of January or perhaps earlier.
Although Linda Parsons was born and raised in Bayside, Queens, N.Y., and has been in Navarre a number of years, she brought her New York accent with her.
