Holley-Navarre Fire District Fire Prevention Festival
According to the National Fire Protection Association, about half of home fire deaths are a result from fires reported between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m., when most are sleeping. So this year’s theme for the 2015 National Fire Prevention Week is “Hear the beep where you sleep,” encouraging people to install smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each separate sleeping area, and on every level of your home.

Health Department Clinic in Midway to reopen Nov. 3
The Florida Department of Health in Santa Rosa County will reopen its doors to serve the south Santa Rosa community on Nov. 3. The clinic, which has been closed due to heavy damage caused by the April 2014 flood, is located at 5840 Gulf Breeze Parkway in Gulf Breeze.

Navarre Garden Club Wins National Award
The Navarre Garden Club was awarded a National Certificate of Commendation by the National Garden Club, Inc. during its 86th Annual Convention in Louisville, Ky. The awards presented were for entries that reflected projects or activities that occurred during 2014, and the commendation was for the landscaping around the Blue Star Memorial Highway marker installed last year at the Navarre Park. Rachel Coggins, club president, accepted the award for the club at the recent District I meeting in Ft. Walton Beach.

Springfest doesn’t reach 3,000 ticket sales goal
The Springfest Steering Committee set a goal of selling 3,000 tickets before Sept. 30, 2015, to gauge interest, raise funds and move forward with a festival in downtown Pensacola.

Santa Rosa Clerk of Court receives Excellence Award
For the 12th consecutive year, the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to Santa Rosa County by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada for its comprehensive annual financial report. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

Nichols not aiming to process concealed weapon licenses
County tax collectors around the state of Florida are becoming alternative sites for residents to apply for or renew a state concealed weapon license under the direction of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The legislation to make this all possible was passed in 2014. This unique partnership allows tax collectors to receive applications, take fingerprints and photographs and send the information to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to process the request for a concealed weapon license.
