Black Hawk 11 memorial events unite community
In a tribute and memorial ceremony that has been planned for months, Navarre united with family members of the lost four Louisiana Air National Guard soldiers and the seven Marine Special Operations Command members who died March 10, 2015, in a training accident over the waters of Navarre Sound.

On March 10,2015, Leadership Santa Rosa Class 29 was preparing to embark on a trip to our State Capitol. I was nominated as the class spokesman because of what I do with the Sheriff’s Office. Little did I know, I was about to speak to the entire nation about a tragedy which was taking place here within our relatively small quiet community.

The Sound at Navarre Beach welcomes Navarre’s newest residents
After months of delays, families were able to move Friday into three of the 56 apartment homes that are now available at The Sound at Navarre Beach on U.S. Highway 98 in Navarre. One building is ready to be occupied and the welcome center is now staffed with a representative of Greystar, the management company.

Round up for fire safety
Would you like to round that up? Firehouse Subs has been asking that question of customers since 2005 when they created the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. The organization’s mission is to provide funding, life-saving equipment and educational opportunities to first-responders and public safety organizations. Through the nonprofit arm of the company, they have given more than $17 million toward public safety including more than $3.1 million in Florida.

County resumes sharing tourism taxes with Gulf Breeze
The longtime sharing of county tourism tax dollars with the City of Gulf Breeze, which was abruptly halted last fall, will be restarted under a new written agreement that remits to the municipality 90 percent of the money collected by hotels within its borders.

HBTS Drainage Town Hall meeting
Baskerville Donovan brought its drainage study presentation to the Holley by the Sea Recreation Facility for a town hall meeting at the request of HBTS Board President Yvonne Harper. About 50-60 members were present as well as Santa Rosa County Administrator Tony Gomillion, County Engineer Roger Blaylock and County Commissioner Rob Williamson.
