Crawling for a Cause
Air Force veteran Robert Reyes had the idea to have a Pub Crawl in Navarre to support local businesses and to raise money for the Fisher House of the Emerald Coast. Little did he know then – that six years later, he would be the owner of a local business, O’Connor’s Pub and Grill. “That never crossed my mind six years ago, but here I am.” Reyes told Navarre Press.

Navarre Beach signage absent near new Pensacola bridge
Although the planned new bridge across Pensacola Bay has a budget of more than $450 million, there aren’t any plans for signage that points the way to Navarre Beach from the revamped northwestern gateway to Santa Rosa County.

Family movies coming to Navarre
Jim Norton, former owner of Gulf Breeze Cinema 4, and a leader of the nonprofit organization The Pensacola Film Festival, is bringing family focused movies to Navarre for the next few weeks under the auspices of Navarre Community Cinema. The features are shown every Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and the $5 admission covers free admission to the movie and a small popcorn and soda. Showings are at Henderson Hall, next to St. Augustine Church at 7810 Navarre Parkway.

Reptiles bring smiles
The one-day reptile show held in various cities all over the country came to Navarre on Saturday. In the pouring rain, Reptiday brought out the curious, the squeamish and the serious to the Days Inn Conference Center to see the reptiles on display and for sale.

Kayak launch coming to Navarre Park West
In a little known park at the end of Blue Tip Drive in Navarre, Santa Rosa County will be installing a new kayak launch. The request for the addition came from James Broxson, owner of Broxson Outdoors located at the corner of Blue Tip Drive and Navarre Parkway and District 4 County Commissioner Rob Williamson.

Base Realignment unlikely until 2019
In a report to the Board of County Commissioners, Pete Gandy, military consultant for Santa Rosa County, spoke of his annual trek to Washington DC last week. Gandy traveled to the nation’s capital as part of the Northwest Florida Defense Coalition to meet with the congressional delegation and pentagon senior leaders and representatives.

County to abandon flood assistance program for 2016
In a Monday committee meeting, the Board of County Commissioners has decided, in line with staff recommendations, that the Flood Mitigation Assistance Program will be abandoned in 2016 due to lack of resident participation. The vote will take place in Thursday’s full County Commission meeting.

Santa Rosa tourism director’s job hunt
Santa Rosa County Tourism Director Julie Morgan applied for the same position last December in Walton County, where the job pays roughly twice her current $68,000 a year.
