Leaseholders tour the Sea Turtle Conservation Center
The Navarre Beach Leaseholders and Residents Association’s monthly meeting ended with a field trip to the Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center. Director Cathy Holmes led the group through the center.

Snowbird’s home away from home
Each year hundreds of people make their winter home in Florida and are, therefore, dubbed “Snowbirds.” They come in the winter months for many reasons, maybe to escape the cold and snow back home for warmer temperatures, to visit Florida when the beaches aren’t crowded with tourists or to spend some time gazing out over the water as the sun sets on Navarre Beach. Whatever the reason, Navarre welcomes these snowbirds to their temporary home-away-from-home.

Navarre Mardi Gras a success
The Navarre Krewe of Jesters put on a parade filled with revelers, floats, beads, moon pies and a king and queen. Overhead the sun was shining and the blue skies were free of any rain clouds that have sprinkled the last few parades.

Milder winter leads to lower manatee mortality
Researchers with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) documented fewer manatee deaths in 2012 than in the previous three years, as milder winter temperatures led to significantly less cold-related mortality. The FWC recorded 392 manatee carcasses in state waters last year, of which a quarter was determined to be from human-related causes.

BP oil spill settlement payments exceed $1B mark
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Businesses and individuals who claim BP’s oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico cost them money have been paid more than $1 billion through the company’s class-action settlement with a team of private plaintiffs’ attorneys, court-supervised claims administrator Patrick Juneau said.
