The Navarre Beach Marine Science Station hosted the Gulf Coast Marine Specimen Lab April 12. Hundreds of kids and adults delighted in touching starfish, sea urchins and other sea life on display in the traveling exhibit, which aims to teach families about marine animals.
The Santa Rosa County Tourist Development Council’s South End Committee is recommending a $10,000 grant to support the 2014 Navarre Beach Fishing Rodeo. The committee voted to support the request April 10.

Registration is now open for the 12th Annual Navarre Fun Fest 5k and 1-Mile Fun Run to be held at 8 a.m., Saturday, April 26 at Navarre Beach. The race is a non-timed 5k and 1-mile fun run which will start and end near the Fun Fest site on Gulf Boulevard at the public boat launch parking lot. All post-race activities, including award presentations and music will take place on the Fun Fest grounds.
A line of thunderstorms Friday packing winds estimated at 60 mph or more damaged Santa Rosa County facilities on Navarre Beach leaving lifeguards with only one usable lifeguard stand from which to monitor the beach and swimmers in the Gulf of Mexico.
Organizers expect the 3rd Annual Navarre Beach Surf Warriors event will send four or five participants to the East Coast Surfing Championship in August to compete in the wounded warrior division. CJ Stein said she expects 15 wounded warriors to participate this year in the six lesson program that begins May 3.
