Extra penny bed tax generates more than $200K for beach renourishment during summer
Last December Santa Rosa County Commissioners voted to levy an additional one-cent bed tax for the purpose of beach restoration funding. That additional assessment started June 1 and generated more than $217,000 by Sept. 30 – the end of the 2013-2014 fiscal year.

Beach park repairs drifting upward
The cost to maintain Navarre Beach facilities were up this year due to the winter freeze and the need to rebuild three lifeguard stands due to high winds. Pier restrooms were also renovated bringing the 2013-2014 season’s current expenses to $59,702. That number is up $25,106 from last year and $32,579 from two years ago.
