Fishing rodeo favored for funding
Excitement is heating up for the Second Annual Navarre Beach Fishing Rodeo set for June 14-15. The Santa Rosa County Tourist Development Council made an April 16 recommendation for the event to receive $10,000 from bed taxes for marketing aimed to lure participants from outside the area.

Mobile sea lab provides hands-on learning for kids
The Navarre Beach Marine Science Station hosted the Gulf Coast Marine Specimen Lab April 12. Hundreds of kids and adults delighted in touching starfish, sea urchins and other sea life on display in the traveling exhibit, which aims to teach families about marine animals.

Funds for fishing rodeo
The Santa Rosa County Tourist Development Council’s South End Committee is recommending a $10,000 grant to support the 2014 Navarre Beach Fishing Rodeo. The committee voted to support the request April 10.

Start of reef expansion unknown
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers April 8 approved the final permit necessary for an expansion of the Navarre Beach Gulfside snorkeling reef, but project proponents say there is no timeline yet for getting it started.

Beach volleyball training comes to Navarre
The Navarre Beach Volleyball Club (NBVC) is offering a 14-week beach volleyball training program starting April 14 at Juana’s Pagodas/Sailors’ Grill. The program is designed for boys ages 9 – 14 and girls 9 – 17.

Island Authority in favor of golf carts on Pensacola Beach
The Santa Rosa Island Authority voted at a March 26 public hearing in favor of using a Santa Rosa County ordinance as a touchstone for allowing golf carts on Pensacola Beach, subject to a year in review.

Lace up your shoes for Fun Fest 5k
Registration is now open for the 12th Annual Navarre Fun Fest 5k and 1-Mile Fun Run to be held at 8 a.m., Saturday, April 26 at Navarre Beach. The race is a non-timed 5k and 1-mile fun run which will start and end near the Fun Fest site on Gulf Boulevard at the public boat launch parking lot. All post-race activities, including award presentations and music will take place on the Fun Fest grounds.
