If you have ever wondered what kind of fish we have at our artificial reefs off of Navarre Beach, then you need to either dive the reefs or attend a class at the Navarre Beach Marine Science Station. Classes are held once a quarter and one was held Saturday.

At approximately 10 a.m. Friday Oct. 30, a Cessna 172N registered to Hum’n Byrds Inc., made an emergency landing just west of Navarre Beach in Escambia County.

Navarre Rotarians provide lifesaving devices
Less than two months after receiving the green light from the Santa Rosa County Board of Commissioners, the Rotary Club of Navarre has safety rescue tubes at every walk over on Navarre Beach. This first-of-a-kind project for the state of Florida is not new to Rotary International. The Navarre Rotary Club is modeling its project after one initiated by fellow Rotarians in Hawaii and North Carolina. “We appreciate what our lifeguards do, but they can’t be there 24-7,” said Rotarian TJ Goulet at a ribbon cutting held this week. With the lifeguards standing down as of Nov. 1, the rescue tubes couldn’t have come at a better time.

Chili Cook-off success for Caring and Sharing
Caring and Sharing held a very successful Chili Cook-off at Juana’s Pagoda’s this past Sunday that raised more than $2,500. The proceeds will be used to help provide meals for area families during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. This year was their best-to-date with 26 participants in the competition (22 chilis and 4 salsas) and 179 tasters.
