Out and About

We have had a McDonald’s in Navarre for decades, but we haven’t had a sign with the McDonald’s iconic arches. My son, who is now 39, used to start praying for his future meal every time he saw the arches – “God is great, God is Good, let us thank Him for our food.” He was ages 3-5 during that stage of his life, and I think he did it because it worked – right? However, I believe as I write this, that it is an indictment of me as a mom.
Remember Fun Fest? It was created to celebrate Navarre no longer being a long-distance phone call from Fort Walton Beach or Pensacola, and vice versa. One of Fun Fest’s claims to fame is that Chris Stapleton sang there – way before he was famous. Actually, he became famous about two years later. Perhaps he started on the road to stardom in Navarre at Fun Fest. The Navarre Centennial Committee is spearheading this event as a “blast from the past.” The event is for families and offers live entertainment and vendors catering to all interests and ages. Families can enjoy entertainment and explore products and services on Sept. 6 in Navarre Park. There is still time to have a vendor booth if you have a business or service that you would like to highlight during the event. You can find a vendor application at https://navarre100.com/events/.
We are excited about the Navarre Fishing Rodeo coming up in about six weeks. We just received word that the Cajun Navy will have representatives there and will be inviting their 100,000 followers to be in attendance – and join in the fun. We appreciate the mission of the Cajun Navy and hope that we never need them. However, it is good to know they are ready, willing and able to help if a crisis arises. Also, LSU has a “bye-week” that weekend. To those of you who don’t know – it means LSU isn’t playing that weekend. That also means that all of Louisiana and all LSU fans in the area won’t miss the game by fishing with us on Oct. 4 and 5.
Quote of the Week: Work on the things that people can’t take away from you: Your body, skills, mindset, character, knowledge and your work ethic. This is how you become unstoppable. Author unknown.
