Out and About

More good news – Daylight savings begins about a month from now on March 10.
Congratulations to the Navarre Beach Area Chamber of Commerce’s 2019 board of directors. They were sworn in Saturday night during the annual gala by District 4 County Commissioner Dave Piech. Our sister company, Sandpaper Marketing was awarded Business of the Year by the chamber. Congratulations to the team and especially our designer, Jodi Kane, who creates most of the design work for the chamber. It is important for your business to have a brand and to be consistent with that brand. We do that for our clients – including the chamber. And they look great! (If we do say so ourselves…however, we have heard others say the same.)
We are super proud of the Navarre High School Cheerleaders for bringing home the state championship! We love it when our sports teams and businesses help put Navarre on the map.
In other news, if you are looking for a couples martial arts training, check out Precision Martial Arts. They have a Valentines Couples Special running until Feb. 28. Buy one – get one free (for adults)! Who could turn that down? See their ad on our Healthy Living page.
And, the Oakridge Gun Range has a coupon on the outdoors page for 50% off the range fee.
There is a great article in this week’s issue about farming with new technology. Our newest reporter, Kyle Evers – yes, he is related to the late and great Greg Evers, reached out to a couple of farmers in Santa Rosa County to take a look at the latest tools they are using – including GPS and drones. We look forward to his future articles.
We are very happy that we have orangutans back at the Gulf Breeze Zoo – including two that were there when they were relocated 10-years ago to a zoological conservation center in Connecticut. I bet they are happy to be back in Florida where it is a lot warmer year-round than in Connecticut. The Gulf Breeze Zoo was selected as the new home for the orangutans because – they are awesome. We are very blessed to have the zoo just down the road. When I talk to tourists about our zoo, I always say just that – our zoo. Have you been to our Zoo? It is just down the road and it is one of the best zoos in the United States. Do you know why it is one of the best zoos? It is because they care and you can tell they care – a lot. In fact, the orangutans were not going to be placed with just any zoo. They were looking for the best of the best and that is why – our zoo – the Gulf Breeze Zoo was chosen. That and the very large habitat they will be in. The island habitat is more than 43,000 square feet and is one of the largest orangutan habitats in the United States. We should all take a lot of pride in our zoo because they care, they are conscientious, they teach conservation, and so much more. Our zoo has always been great – but it just keeps getting better. We are very fortunate to have such a facility – right down the road.
