Opinion, Out and About

Out and About

| Sandi Kemp
Come out to Windjammers at the Pier Saturday and watch the Alabama vs. LSU game on the big screen. Bring a sweater because the high Saturday is 70 and the low is 54.  Also – bring a lawn chair and some money to try their delicious beverages and food. Try the calamari – it is awesome…along with everything else.

Sunday – we are falling back – and we gain an entire hour while we sleep. Sunday night – it will be darker an hour earlier which – I am not a fan of, but I have no choice.

The Pensacola Ice Flyers are having a Toy Drive at this Friday’s game.  On Saturday, it is Veterans appreciation night.  Call Navarre Press to see how you can get free tickets.

Join First Baptist Navarre for their Israel Rally this Sunday at Navarre Park at 2:30 p.m.

Okaloosa Gas is expanding into Navarre and wants to remind you that natural gas homes sell for 6 percent more than electric homes. Visit OkaloosaGas.com for more information.

Please enjoy the Shrimp Basket BOGO Sticker on this paper by the deadline of Saturday, Nov. 10.

Believe it or not – the holidays are coming right at us. I’m going to order my smoked Thanksgiving turkey from Ye Olde Brothers Brewery. They have a smoker on-site and they are going to smoke whole turkeys for takeout for Thanksgiving. Order and pay $35 by Nov. 10 and pick up by 4 p.m. on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving – Nov. 21. You can order at the restaurant or online at www.yeoldebrothersbrewery.com.

The Navarre Chamber Small Business Committee is looking forward to their seventh Annual Navarre Chamber Holiday Shop and Dine Crawl slated for Saturday, Nov. 17. The event is open to the public. Also – Christmas in the Park is just around the corner – Saturday, Dec. 1. The Jingle Bell Run will be held the same day. There are always great events and ways to get involved in your community through the Navarre Beach Area Chamber of Commerce. Go to navarrechamber.com for more information.

Just in case you don’t catch the subtlety of the food drive during Beach Bowl week between Gulf Breeze and Navarre in the story on page 2B – let me just lay it on the line. A total of 10,000 canned goods were collected by the two schools. Of those, Navarre Raiders contributed 9,000 and the Raider football team beat the Dolphins by almost the same margin. If we bring this to Gulf Breeze’s attention sooner next year – perhaps there will be more competition on both sides and everyone wins!

Our team attends most events in the community and we may take hundreds of photos and only one or two make the paper. Have you ever thought to yourself…I wonder what happens to the other 200 photos? We may not have done a very good job of letting you know – but all photos, including the photos that make the paper go to NavarrePhotos.com where you can download them or buy them in all shapes and sizes. It is fun just to browse through the events and see the awesome people that participated, and many times – the awesome scenery. The regatta had especially beautiful photos. Check it out navarrephotos.com.

Don’t forget to vote!  Next week we will have gone to press before the result of the election, however, we will have the results online.  Regardless – by Thursday – you will know the results of the election.

Quote of the Week: If we open a quarrel between the past and the present, we shall find that we have lost the future.  Sir Winston Churchill/British politician (1874 – 1965)
