Raiders compete in Tiger Relays

Navarre’s track teams competed in their first big meet of the year Saturday, testing themselves at the Tiger Relays at Booker T. Washington High School in Pensacola. The Raiders were up against some of the top teams in the area on a mild February day.

Navarre’s boys team finished fifth overall with 65 points. The girls placed seventh with 39 points. Niceville, which is in the same district as Navarre, swept the boys and girls championships.

Sam Bassham turned in one of the best performances, winning the 300-meter hurdles and taking second in the 110 hurdles.

A senior with a real shot at getting to state, Bassham won the 300 with a time of 41.01 and took second in the 110 with a time 15.27.

Khiarra Newton, who finished sixth at state in the pole vault as a freshman last year, led the way for the girls as she tied for second in the event Saturday with a height of 9-feet-0 1/4 inches.
