Spring practice is nearing an end for Navarre’s football team. The Raiders will close it out Friday night with a 7:30 p.m. game against rival Gulf Breeze at Bennett C. Russell Stadium.
It will be a nice change from a year ago when the Raiders had to settle for a scrimmage.
“In the past we had played Crestview and Escambia in a jamboree, but that didn’t work out last year,” Navarre head coach Jay Walls said. “I called several schools but couldn’t get another opponent.”
Practice has been underway for nearly three weeks and having a game against an opponent changes up the usual routine.
“The guys are tired of practicing against each other and scrimmaging against each other,” Walls said. “Being able to compete against another team is always good. And there is the rivalry factor. There is more motivation for both sides.”
