County to consider installing state’s largest U.S. flag

Installing Florida’s largest American flag in Santa Rosa County would display its residents’ patriotism, honor the military and veterans, and attract tourists, County Commissioner James Calkins told his colleagues at two Board of County Commissioners’ meetings last week.
Camping World, an RV dealership at 6242 Gulf Breeze Parkway, flies a 3,200-square-foot American flag (40 feet x 80 feet) on a 130-foot-high flagpole. Santa Rosa County Commissioner James Calkins wants to install a flag larger than 5,000 square feet on a pole at least 200 feet high at the county’s administrative complex on Caroline Street.
