Library event helps introduce science concepts to children

On Thurs., Oct. 20, Navarre Library held a ‘STEAMaker’ event. The event gathered children from 10 to 17 years old who are interested in robotics, coding, and other tech together for an hour each month.

STEAMaker is a play on words in reference to STEAM, which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics. STEAM has become a key component of education in schools and the Santa Rosa Library System created STEAMaker to help facilitate learning beyond the classroom.

Various activities make up the STEAMaker event. Some of the children who attended the event built planes out of paper and K’nex toys, which are used to build things and spur creativity.
