April 20, 2010. Some may have trouble remembering what happened nearly four years ago, but as soon as the words “oil spill” are mentioned, they immediately remember and many local residents have vivid of memories of the spring and summer of 2010.
It didn’t take long for experts and members of the media to determine impacts would be felt along the Gulf Coast from Louisiana to Florida. Additionally, the spill happened only months before the opening of the new Navarre Beach Fishing Pier and the peak of tourist season.
“When we were getting the negative press from the national media that year, we took a beating,” said Ken Rudzki from Juana’s Pagodas. “People hear about the disaster and it takes a while for them to forget.”
