A vehicle theft ring that targeted victims along Hwy 98 in Navarre and Gulf Breeze has been stopped. A total of five suspects were arrested and all six vehicles including a Chevy Tahoe and a Z71 have been recovered.
Sheriff’s Office armored vehicle can endure heavy fire
Earlier this year the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office acquired a demilitarized armored vehicle for roughly $2,500 – a fraction of the original cost. The vehicle not only provides increased protection for members of the agency’s SWAT team but can also be used for other purposes.

The Santa Rosa County Clerk of Court receives recognition
The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to Don Spencer and Santa Rosa County by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR). The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

Regatta regales sailors
Juana’s Annual Regatta set a record this year with more than 100 watercraft and windsurfers participating in the annual event held in the Navarre Sound. The sound was filled with colorful boats and sail boats as they tacked for position before the 11 a.m. start on Sept. 6. They tried to time their approach to the starting line just as the horn blew for the start of the distance race.

The rig was owned by Switzerland-based Transocean Ltd., operating under contract to BP.

New Orleans (AP) — Environmentalists, recreational fishermen and people who make their living on the Gulf of Mexico are hailing a federal judge's ruling that could mean $18 billion in additional fines for BP over the nation's worst offshore oil spill.
Gulf Breeze mayor resigns
Gulf Breeze mayor Beverly Zimmern and Mayor Pro Tem J.B. Schluter announced to city staff on Friday that they would not be seeking another term in office. Friday was also the last day for Gulf Breeze candidates to file their intentions to seek a city office.
Workforce development leaders make case for RESTORE funding
Leaders in local workforce training and development on Monday made presentations to the Santa Rosa County RESTORE Council, gearing up for the anticipated availability of funding in early 2015. Representatives from Santa Rosa County District Schools, Pensacola State College and CareerSource Escarosa were invited to share information about ongoing and proposed programs.
