Local real estate market rising, but bumps still expected

The real estate market is on the upswing both in Navarre and across the state of Florida. Adam Muller, vice president of Metro Market Trends, discussed the market overview of Navarre and Navarre Beach at a recent Navarre Area Board of Realtors (NABOR) luncheon and said the local area has had positive growth overall, but has not completely recovered. State and County Unemployment lowest since 2008

Santa Rosa County and the State of Florida announced that unemployment rates are the lowest they have been since 2008.

 Santa Rosa County’s March 2013 unemployment rate of 6.1 percent is at the lowest level in approximately five years when the October 2008 rate was also 6.1 percent.  The latest numbers are down from 8.4 percent in March 2012 and 6.7 percent in February of this year. Santa Rosa County ranks 46 out of 67 Florida counties, with only 18 counties in the state having a lower unemployment rate (not seasonally adjusted) for March 2013.  Santa Rosa County’s rate continues to be lower than both the national and state unemployment rates.

Scott announces job creation in Pensacola

Governor Rick Scott visited Navy Federal Credit Union in Pensacola on April 3 to announce NFCU’s plans to create 1,500 new jobs and to invest $200 million in capital in the Northwest Florida Region.

Gulf Breeze Chamber presents annual awards

The Gulf Breeze Area Chamber of Commerce announced its 2012 annual award winners March 23 during a Hawaiian-themed gala celebration at the Hilton Pensacola Beach Hotel.

Ambassador of the Year is Dave Alderson of Gulf States Insurance.

Emerging Leader of the Year is Cathy Burleigh of Gulf Coast Community Bank.

Emerging Business of the Year is Coastal Paddle Company, owned and managed by Kevin and April Cook.

The Nancy Keyes Spirit Award winner is Don Richards of United Peninsula Association.

Business of the Year is Bayside Collision Center, owned and operated by Ronnie and Shannon Westmoreland.

The party was complete with a Hawaiian band and dancers, who helped some of the chamber members learn a new way of cutting the rug.

“I think I have the best staff in the world,’’ said Josi Cotti, president and chief executive officer of the Gulf Breeze Area Chamber of Commerce. “If you have problems, we are here to help. This committee makes a difference in the city and the county. We strive to be the best cheerleader for our beautiful community.’’

The chamber has 410 business and individual members.
